Sr. Therese Misencik, Sbs - Class Of 1947

Sr. Therese Misencik, 89, Sister of the Blessed Sacrament, formerly Sr. Martin Anthony SBS, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Pennsylvania, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Lakewood, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. Misencik and Lucy M. (nee Zvolencak) Misencik.

She is survived by her sisters, Rose Mayton of Pennsylvania and Anne Dancik of Amherst; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Marilyn Misencik of Avon; Sr. Therese was the beloved aunt of Richard and Raymond Sinchak, Gregory, Mark, David, Chris and Mary Lou Chinchar, Daniel, Thomas, Anne Marie and Therese "Terry" Mayton, Susan, John, Karen and Carol Dancik, Mary, Joseph "Bud", Lucy and Anita Misencik; great-aunt of 38 and great-great-aunt of 32.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gertrude Sinchak and Agnes Chinchar and brothers-in-law, Stephen Sinchak, Victor Chinchar, Thomas Mayton and Robert Dancik.

Sr. Therese entered the novitiate in 1947 and was caregiver of Mother Katherine Drexel, foundress of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, until her death. She professed her final vows in 1955. Sr. Therese earned Masters Degrees in both Theology and Library Science. She was an elementary and high school teacher, teaching Native Americans and African Americans students throughout the United States from the 1950's through the 1990's. In 2000, Sr. Therese traveled to Rome and attended the canonization of Mother Katherine when Pope John Paul II elevated her to sainthood. When retired from teaching, she returned to the motherhouse in Bensalem, Pennsylvania and oversaw the archives of St. Katherine Drexel, foundress of her order. Sr. Therese will always be remembered for her loving devotion of her parents and family, the thousands of students she taught during her life and the fellow sisters of her community, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.

Her funeral will take place Friday, July 6, 2018 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Rest in peace Aunt Therese.
