Janet Wintersteen Shade

July 03, 1927 - July 11, 2018

Janet Wintersteen Shade, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away July 11, 2018, at the Reading Hospital. Janet had resided at Amity Place in Douglassville at the time of her death.
She was born July 3, 1927, in Danville, a daughter of the late A.L. Wintersteen and Bertha (Heller) Wintersteen. On Nov. 19, 1955, she married James H. Shade who preceded her in death.

Janet was a member of the Danville High School Class of 1945, however, an illness forced her to attend SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Slovak Girls High School, where she graduated in 1946. Janet graduated from Cedar Crest College in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in biology.
She worked at Merck and Co. upon graduation from college as a biologist and spent many years working at the Pine Barn Inn.
Janet loved the Danville community and was a life-long member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, where she was very active in the Adult Fellowship. She was also a member of the Danville Women's Club, the Genealogy Club, the Bookworms and the American Red Cross.
Janet enjoyed hosting summer picnic get-togethers with the DHS Class of '45. She enjoyed gardening and loved the peacefulness her flowers brought her. Janet adored her granddaughters and was happy to be able to spend time with them as well as her longtime companion, Krickie, her beloved cat.

Janet is survived by one son, Richard F. Shade (Carla Thomas) of Danville; two daughters, Kathleen S. Iacobucci (Michael) of Phoenixville, Pa., and Suzanne W. Derr (Timothy) of Ephrata; four granddaughters; and one brother, LeRoy Wintersteen of Orangeville.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Wintersteen and Frances Stainsby; and one brother, W. Jack Wintersteen.

Services were private and held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Danville.
