Emily M. Degenhart, 89, of Hazleton passed away Tuesday evening at her daughter's house in Conyngham, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Hazleton, the daughter of the late John and Veronica (Mihalik) Janosov.

She was a member of the Parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius at the Church of St. Joseph, where she was an active member and past president of St. Josephs Confraternity of Christian Women. For many years she was a Eucharistic Minister and involved in many fundraising functions such as Easter baking and pirogi making. She was also active with the church's cemetery committee.

Emily was a graduate of St. Cyril Academy, Danville, and a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre. She was past president of the St. Cyril Alumni Association, coordinated many Blood Mobiles of the American Red Cross, a member and former secretary for the Branch 1 Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union, active member and president for many years of the Bishop Hafey High School Mother's Club. She received the Volunteers of America Award a number of years ago.

She worked as an R.N. in maternity at St. Joseph's Hospital and also worked part time at Citizen's Publishing Co. and Degenhart Chiropractor Clinic, Hazleton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Degenhart; and her siblings, John J. Janosov, Margaret Camissa, Mary McGraw, Cy Janosov and Michael Janosov. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was mother to 12 loving children, Gilbert Degenhart and his wife, Debbie, Nazareth; Mary Frances (Marfy) Yanac, Hollywood; Dr. John Degenhart and his wife, Janet, Hazleton; Joseph Degenhart and his wife, Mary Ann, Collingswood, N.J.; Joanne Gallagher and her husband, Ronald, Conyngham; Suzanne Leskosky and her husband, Jeffrey, Easton; Monica Chulock, Beaver Meadows; Margaret Bennett and her husband, Daniel, Easton; Mark Degenhart and his wife, Karen, Shrewsberry, N.J.; Paul Degenhart, Quakertown; Emily Martonick and her husband, Timothy, Conyngham; and Jennifer Bonin and her husband, Michael, Hazleton; 39 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, whom she enjoyed in her later years; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius at the Church of St. Joseph, Hazleton.

Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Emily's memory to the Parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius or the American Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.
