Obituary for Mary Theresa Grena

Mary Theresa Grena

Mary T. Grena (1924 - 2024) was born in Oco, Ohio, a second generation daughter of Slovak Immigrants.
She was one of five chidren of Josph Sr. and Sophie Grena (Marko): Anna Hill, Jospeh Jr., Margareth Hika, Mary Grena, Helen Grena Krenicki.
Her father was a miner in Ohio and Pennsylvania until he brought the family to New York, Manhattan, where he got a job as an elevator operator.
Mary was the only child they could afford to put through formal education. First she became a teacher, proud of having thought men and women returning from the battlefields of the second world war.
Later she landed a job as an executive secretary to the Treasurer of Waterfront Commission of New York and New Jersey. She worked for that bi-state agency for more than 40 years.
In 1968 she met Fr. George J. Torok, C.O., founder of Hallel Communications and of the New York Oratory of St. Philip Neri. That started her new mission for the rest of her precious life.
In her genuine faith she lived, helped and gave everything to the Oratorian priests.
No words can sufficiently express the gratitude for what she was and for what she did for all of us in Hallel and in the Oratory of St. Philip Neri.

Shalom, dear Mary, Shalom of the Risen Lord.
