Dorothy Najduch (Shadie) - Class Of 1936

 

Dorothy E. Shadie, formerly of Swoyersville and Mountain Top, died peacefully on Oct. 17, 2014 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton, surrounded by her loving family.She was born in Hazleton on Feb. 4, 1919. Her deceased parents were Michael and Anna (Bolish) Najduch. She was the last survivor of their nine children, Jean Frost, Anna Hostack, Mary Magula, Michael Najduch Jr., Susan Dayock, Pauline Zboray, Paul Nydock and Matilda Kirchgessner.She graduated from St. Cyril's Academy, Danville, in 1936. She married the late George A. Shadie in 1939. She was a true partner in their business, Shadie Electrical Service. They were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary, shortly before his death in 1989. She is survived by her three children, son, Ronald G. Shadie and his wife, Barbara, Swoyersville; son, George R. Shadie, AEP, CLU and his son, Alexander, Drums; daughter, Dorotheann Shadie Sadusky and her husband, Dr. Bernard Sadusky, Chester, Md. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Barbara (Shadie) Nause, Esq., her husband, Robert Nause, their children, Angeli and Benjamin Nause, Carla (Shadie) Bradley and her husband, Shane Bradley and their son, Cole Bradley, Major Aaron Sadusky and his wife, Dr. Anna Sadusky and their twins, Amelia and Andrew Sadusky, Jessica (Sadusky) Cuches, Esq. and her husband, Michael Cuches, Esq. and their son, Michael Cuches, Jr.; and grandchildren, Attorney Christopher Chorba and Alyson Walker.The "Shadie Lady," as she liked to be called, was active in her community. For years she volunteered at Mountain Top Kids, where she was affectionally known as "Nana Shadie"!She was a respected member of The Mountain Top Ladies, VFW and American Legion Auxiliary and the Stanton Lanes Bowling League. As a community activist, she was able to get road restrictions to minimize the heavy truck traffic at The Harry E Colliery in Swoyersville. She helped establish the Auxiliary for the Swoyersville Volunteer Hose Company No. 1, and working the annual church picnic for St. John Nepomucene Church in Luzerne. She quietly did charity work for needy families, never looking for praise or notoriety. She was popular and well liked at the Gino Merli Veterans Center for her infectious optimism and sense of humor. She loved to say prayer can move mountains and it's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness! We will always be indebted to her for her positive spirit, showing us the joy and deep passion for the simple things in life, strong family values and faith in God.Dot was active in her parish, St. Jude's in Mountain Top, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in her honor. Viewing will be held and condolences will be accepted at McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.We wish to thank the sensitive and caring staff of The Gino Merli Veterans Center and Sacred Heart Hospice.Instead of flowers, we request donations made in her memory to SAFE Inc.
