S. Frances Juracka - Class Of 1935

JURACKA SISTER FRANCES JURACKA (Sister Mary Angelita) of the Sisters of Mercy died Monday (February 13, 2012) at St. Mary Home, just short of her ninety-fifth birthday. Sister was born February 22, 1916 in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Methodius and Mary (Hiza) Juracka. After working several years in the business world, Sister Frances realized a childhood dream and entered the Sisters of Mercy. Sister taught primary grades in Catholic schools throughout the state including Sacred Heart in Bridgeport. She also served as a library aide at both Sacred Heart and St. Peter School, Bridgeport where her organizational skills were well utilized. Twelve of Sister's earlier years were spent in the care of young boys at Highland Heights, New Haven. Sister retired to Mercyknoll in 2003 and later moved to St. Mary Home. Sister Frances was a voracious reader and an accomplished and meticulous seamstress. She loved to shop, mostly window shopping, and enjoyed visiting weekly with her family. In her later years, Sister's hearing deficit made communication difficult, but this loss was compensated by her "eagle" eyesight. Sister Frances enjoyed a good laugh and her quiet chuckle endeared her to many. Sister is predeceased by 3 sisters and is survived by her sister Cecilia Juracka of Fairfield, several nieces, nephews and long-time friends, and her sisters in the Mercy community. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday at 6:00PM in the chapel of St. Mary Home, 2021 Albany Ave., West Hartford. The sisters and family will receive visitors from 3:00-5:45PM on Thursday prior to the funeral Mass. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery on Friday at 9:00 AM. Those wishing to make a donation in Sister Frances' memory are asked to consider the Sisters of Mercy, 55 East Cedar St., Newington 06111. Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home has care of arrangements.
