Sr. Claire T. Mahoney, 77 of Mt. Carmel, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012 at her home. She was born on October 1, 1934 in Port Jervis, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Mayan) Mahoney.
Sr. Mahoney was a retired Daughter of Mercy and worked as a teacher for many years. She attended Catholic University in MD. Sr. Mahoney helped needy children and she enjoyed traveling all over the world, spreading Christ's love. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two brothers, Fred Mahoney of Danville and Francis and his wife Ramona Mahoney of Danville, a sister, Patricia and her husband Bob Lechner of MA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Fr. Daniel J. Mahoney, William Mahoney, Anthony Mahoney, Vincent Mahoney and Joseph Mahoney as well as a sister, Agnes Wells.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM on Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Joseph Church in Danville with the Rev. Stephen Fauser, Pastor celebrating Mass and the Rev. Frank Karwacki concelebrating Mass. The burial will follow at St. Huberts Cemetery in Danville. Friends may call at St. Huberts Chapel, located in the annex of St. Joseph Church, 18 East Center Street in Danville on Friday from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM. The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in Sr. Claire's memory.
