Sister M. Karen (Frances) Wilson - Class Of 1954

Sister M. Karen, SS.C.M., 81 Sister M. Karen (Frances Wilson) died at Geisinger Medical Center on November 24, 2016. Born on November 9, 1935 in Montreal, Canada, she was the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Paquette) Wilson. She became a naturalized citizen in June 1959 in Lewisburg, PA. She attended elementary school in Montreal, Canada and Ginter Park and Chandler Junior High in Richmond, Virginia. From 1949-53 she attended Bishop England High School, Charleston, SC and graduated in 1954 from St. Cyril Academy. Danville. On September 5, 1954 Sister entered the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Danville and was received as a novice on August 3, 1955. She made her profession of vows on August 6, 1957. Sister Karen received her LPN from Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing, Norristown, PA, her RN from Gwynedd-Mercy College, Gwynedd, PA and a BSN from Bloomsburg University. Sister Karen taught on the elementary level in Indiana and Pennsylvania. She served in the congregation’s health care facilities at Villa St. Cyril, Highland Park, Illinois, where she was Director of Nursing from 1987-88, and at Maria Joseph Manor, Danville, PA. She was also on the staff of the St. Stanislaus Rehab Center, Nanticoke, PA and did nursing at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC. Sister Karen was also the school nurse at St. Cyril Academy, Danville and engaged in nursing duties at St. Methodius Convent. Sister was missioned to Sacred Heart parish in Lewisburg, PA where she acted as Director of Religious Education and Pastoral Assistant. For the past fifteen years Sister Karen served as an assistant in the Finance Office at the Motherhouse. She specialized in health-related aspects of the work. Sister Karen is survived by a sister, Nancy Murray and her husband Laurence, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and a niece, Louise Motamedi, and a nephew, Lauren, and their families, also residing in Canada. The arrival of the body and recitation of the Rosary will take place on November 30, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Maria Hall, Danville. The Wake Service is scheduled for 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. followed by burial in the Sisters’ cemetery.
